Report - Wakey Indoor Cruise

Back Once Again With The Ill Behaviour…

Old Skool cruising, we all love a bit of it and in this part of the world it throws you back to the days of Donny & Ponty cruise meets on cold windy carparks, half naked women, burnouts and some cheesy 90′s euro dance music pumping out of a nova or saxo, of course were not saying thats a bad thing as that shaped a generation of petrolheads eager for a mcdonalds and some action on your local retail park every saturday night.

It was inevitable that the long arm of the law was always going to spoil the fun, thus leaving the art of a REAL cruise to die out.
The threat of ASBO’s at every retail park meant that the frequency of illegal cruising died and was replaced with shows and ‘ meets ‘ leaving an underground thirst for the old skoolThe team at Wakey Cruise seem to have found the right recipe to bring it back. To create a perfect old skool cruise you need only a few choice ingredients.. 1 x main man, 1 x Good location, 1 x sprinkling of eager cruisers and a side of modified cars. The team at Wakey didn’t disappoint on this one. The location was once again a huge disused warehouse this time with the main ingredient Jo Fletcher adding a hint of drift. To bring out the full flavour they even put on a DJ playing some awesome tunes and to complete the Old Skool flavour a load of modified cars from all over the region.

Cars from all over the region waiting to get in on the action !
The cruise was due to kick off at 7:30 but some of the FNM team headed up early doors (6pm) to get set up and the camera gear going. Expecting to be dead the cruise was already starting to build up with Source Sounds setting up demo cars, Jo fletcher setting up the car and preparing to put on a show & the DJ’s where already rocking some top tunes at this stage.
We took full advantage of the fact it wasnt packed early doors by taking a good look round Jo Fletchers Nissan.
The huge drift wing, carbon bonnet and insane paint job really finished off the car and will no doubt help Jo get even more attention this year.
The rest of the FNM team caught up with us at around 8:30 and by this time the cruise was in full swing. The wakey staff team where struggling to get any more cars inside and outside ! Traffic started to back up onto the main roads all trying to catch a bit of the action.
Drifting wasnt the only thing on offer, what with In-Car audio displays by Source Sounds, a BMW Alpina and many more top cars this night is one we wont forget in a while.
Many of you wanted to know a little bit about Jo so here at FNM we put some of your questions to the main man…
Question : Jo, how did you get into drifting & where ?
Jo : ” i started on the streets. I used to drift round abouts and sometimes getting it wrong and smashing wheels to bits”
Question : Do you attend track & drift days ?
Jo : ” yep all the time ”
Question : What if any licenses do you hold ?
Jo ”  i have recently gone to try and get my semi-pro licence but i was deemed good enough to go straight into pro.”
Question : Are there anybody who you want to big up in this mini interview ?
Jo ” can i just say a huge thanks to matt stevenson at slide motorsport , performance direct & Mick Johnson. thanks for sponsoring me for the 2011 season”
We have included all the technical spec on Jo Fletchers car at the end of the blog, So we leave you with the photos taken by our resident photographer , Rich.
